Black White +1

In this assignment we had to use our old garden photos and made them black and white plus one. The point of this assignment was to test the year one cyberARTS class on their photoshop skills.
This is my black and white plus one. First I created the mask over the photo. I then used the quick selection tool to select the the sign. I then added a gradient map to it to make it black and white, I also added a filter called posterize.

Black and White

I picked the blue channel and then I used the channel mixer and I made the picture a little lighter by bumping up the red and then brining down the green.
I used gradient map, I created my own gradient map. I bumped up the lightness a lot more then the darkness. I then saved my gradient map and applied it to my picture.
I used the gradient map again and I created my own one. I bumped up the darkness and the lightness to create good balance. I then applied it to the photo.

Chess Piece

In CyberArts we have stared a realistic drawing unit. The first assignment in this unit was to draw a chess piece realistically with shading and with a background that shows movement and rhythm. This is my chess piece for this assignment. I tried to create movement in the background with the branchs, I drew them so it looked like they're all tavle down or up the page towards the chess piece. By doing this, it helps move yours eyes around the page but still centre on the chess piece. I tried to make all the branchs look smilar to create patteren.

L.C.I Skills Challenge

This is my logo, t-shirt design for the L.C.I tech. skills challenge. I started creating this logo with the first step in the design process which is, know your objective. My objective was to create a logo for a skills challenge taking place at L.C.I. The logo has to show the different types of tech. courses offered at L.C.I. Once I knew my objective I had to do some research. First I had to figure out what types of technological courses are offered a L.C.I, the courses were auto mechanics, cyber arts, cosmetology, culinary, construction, and communication. Then from there I created a idea board on pinterest, the idea board came in handy because from it I got some inspiration to create the logo. The next step in creating my logo was drawing 15 to 20 thumb nail sketches, from there I picked my favourite one that also worked best for the skills challenge. And then I started tracing it on the computer using the program illustrator. With illustrator I also added colour and font. And then I was all done the creative process.

For my final logo I chose a pale green colour, I really liked this colour because it looked good on the black t-shirt background or the white or the bright blue background. Also its just a really nice colour. The other elements and principles of design I used are line, shape and movement. I showed line in the outline of everything in the logo. I showed shape within the earth and the bars. I showed movement with the bars, the bars help move your eyes around the picture smoothly and easily.

Over all I am satisfied with the way my logo turned out, I think it shows the concept of the skills challenge well and it looks very clean and visually pleasing to look at. I also think I met the objective that I was given at the beginning of this assignment, because I think my logo is sending the appropriate message very clearly and easily. Over all I think my logo turned out very nice.

Garden Photos

I like this photo because I used selective focus. I also like this photo because I used contrast by putting the red and yellow flowers in the back ground it makes the silver fence stand out.
I like this photo because I used contrast to make the green leaves stand out. I used the rich brown colour of the dirt and the bright green leaves to create contrast.
In this photo I put the orange flower in front of the green leaves to create emphasis. Also by putting the flower on the leaves it created contrast between the two colours, which also helps emphasize the flower.
I like this photo because I used the rule of thirds in it. The best part of the photo, which is the flower isn't in the middle of the photo, and by doing that I used the rule of thirds. Also I used selective focus again to help emphasize the flower.
This photo is my favourite one I took. I like this one the most because I used select focus to make the sign stand out. I also really like it because the contrast of the green background and brown and red sign looks really nice together.
I like this photo because I used the rule of thirds, and put the sunflower in the last section on the right. By doing this the sunflower stands out in the photo. By doing this it also creates emphasis.
In this photo I used the rule of thirds in an attempt  to make the yellow tomato stand out in the photo. I really like this photo because of the way the colour of the tomato makes it stand out in the green leaves.

Daumier Charcoal Art

Today in CyberARTS we completed the assignment called Daumier Charcoal Art. This assignment required the class to work together in an attempt to recreate the piece of art called “Third Class Carriage”. Every student got a piece of the artwork (not knowing what it was) and had to draw and shade it. When everyone finished their piece of the painting we put all the puzzle pieces together and it created the work of art “Third Class Carriage”.

I personally think that this recreation of the art piece doesn’t show imitationalism very well.  Although the artist payed close attention to detail I still think it doesn’t show imitationalism well. The artist created flowing and soft lines through out the whole painting although a lot of lines in real life are sharp ad straight. Also the people in the artwork are not very life like. The are all outlined in a black line and none of them fit together and they all look choppy and disproportionate. So over all I don’t think this art piece showed imitationalism well.

I don’t think the artwork has unity. When looking at the whole picture everything looks very scrambled to much is going on in the picture. There are to many people squished in the small space of the art piece.  Also not all of the value matches up. For example the four squares in bottom right corner none of the values match up. Or the 4 squares in the top right corner again none of the values match up although they are supposed to be he same value.  All together I think the photo doesn’t show any unity.

The last thing I'm gonna talk about is how the piece of art work makes me feel. Over all this artwork makes me feel kind of sad. I feel sad looking at it because of many different elements of the photo. For example the way the faces of the people in the photo look like, they all seem very sad. Also the lines of the photo are very soft adding the look od sadness to the art piece. The value of the photo also give a depressing feel to the art piece. To sum up the painting makes me feel sad.

Illustrator tracing assignment - Logo

For this assignment I chose a panda to make my logo. I chose a panda because they are my favorite animal. I like pandas because I think they are really cute, also I think pandas and I are very alike. All they do is sit around and eat all day, those are 2 of my favorite things to do. For the color panda, I chose different shades of navy blue because I thought it looked really nice with the panda also blue is one of my favorite colors. I tried to make the lines outlining the panda look soft and fuzzy like the fur on a panda. I wrote my name on the bottom of my picture because it would be a nice finishing touch on my logo. I chose that font because it went really well with the rest of logo.

Thumb Print Identity

This is my thumb print identity. With my thumb print I tried to communicate the message of my own identity by using all the different elements that I used. I tried to use the water color to show I am, for the most part a calm and collected person. The font I used is just used is just my normal hand writing but I wrote it in all capitals because I liked the way it looked. I tried to make the words stories and books stand out because, right now books and reading is something I really love doing and it’s a big part of my life right now. I really I really struggled with the writing portion of this assignment. Ever copy I wrote (I wrote 7) just didn't work out. But over all I really liked this assignment.

Typographic Identity

This is my Typographic Identity. I chose the shape of the music note because I love music. I played piano when I was young and I played trumpet during middle school. Also all my sisters played piano so music has always been a big part of my life. The words that I chose include things like my name, obviously because it’s my name, but there are other words like sisters, Doctor Who and reading. All of the words I put in my typographic identity have some sort of meaning to me, like sisters I have three sisters. Or reading, I am a huge book nerd I love reading and getting lost in stories. I have also put in some of my favourite books, TV shows and bands. The font I chose, I chose because I really liked it. And finally I chose the color because I thought it just tied everything together, also because it looked really nice with the shape, font and words. So that is why I chose everything I did for my typographic identity.
